A one sentence rant as elections come closer.

Why is it that most places that talk about faith in politics seems to be about the politics before the faith.

Let's start with a snippet of good news

Filed under: Personal — RichieDaley @ 2:05 am

I passed my driving test yesterday. At the grand old age of 25 I’m now a licensed driver. I’m oh-so-much-more adult now.

Interestingly enough that sort of stopped being one of my issues recently. I sort of feel like a switch was flipped recently regarding my adultness. I don’t know if it was hitting 25 or if it was me deciding to sport facial hair, but I’ve noticed that since turning 25 I’ve noticed that people seem to treat me like a real adult, not a “young adult” or whatever, but actual adulthood.

But anyway, back to the driving situation. Now I have to go car shopping. I’m going to have to find a good, fuel-efficient car that can also carry a decent amount of people/cargo, because I’m realizing that my work with InterVarsity is going to involve travel to conferences and the like, as well as carrying students to these conferences. I have some ideas of what car I want, but if people have suggestions/directions to point me in, I would love to hear about them.

Long Time No Post

Wow, it’s been a while. There’s been lots of things going on recently. Mostly dealing with InterVarsity and Hamline and all of that stuff. This is part of why I haven’t been posting as much recently, but I hope to remedy that over the next week/couple of weeks.

It’s a bit of a do or die time for me through the end of  the month and then the end of the year. I’ll talk a little bit more about it, but both the day job and my InterVarsity stuff are ramping up. Some decisions have been made and prioritization is going on. I’m being vague so that I can have something to post about in the next couple of days. Anyway, I hope all is going well with you out there. Peace.

I spoke too soon

I stepped outside today and saw this.

Would you believe that half an hour later it was sunny

The video doesn’t nearly do it justice.

Regarding the weather

It’s days like this that my only comfort is to tell myself that flurries aren’t really snow.

How is this possible?

Ok, on a more frivolous note than I really post on this blog, I don’t understand the results of this quiz. (Behind the link for those who don’t really care) (more…)

Three possible Bible studies I want to do.

And I’m not sure which I want to do yet, but here they are.

  1. I’ve somewhat started a study of Leviticus. It’s a book of the bible that can be very difficult for people my age, and for me personally to understand and accept. It’s complicated and says some things that at first glance seem very un-Christian. So what does it mean, and how does it fit into (or change) the image of God painted by the rest of the bible.
  2. I also want to do a manuscript-style study of 1 John. For those who are unfamiliar with it, a manuscript-style study is when you remove all of the verses, chapter markings, and depending on how hardcore you want to get, punctuation from a passage so as to remove the man-made structural interpretations of the passage. Then you analyze the passage looking for what the actual structure of the passage may be, and thus the meaning conveyed by it.
  3. Thirdly, I want to do a biblical study of the concept of shalom. Shalom is translated in many ways in the bible, and if you click the link you’ll see that it has many meanings:- peace, completeness, welfare, health, relational harmony. It is very much tied into the idea of the Kingdom of God. I would like to go through the bible, see where the word appears and study the context and meaning of that word and see what does the concept encompass, how is it talked about, and what does it mean when God brings shalom

Anyway, these are things I want to do. I may try to find people to do them with, but I wanted to put this out there, and hear your thoughts and/or reccomendations on how to go about any of them.
