I only just got the sand off me, after being attacked on the playground by a strike team of kids 12 and under. Tonight was the Family Night summer picnic. For those of you who don’t know, Family night is a part of the Wednesday Night Ministry of Pilgrim Baptist Church, and I teach/co-teach the 6th-8th grade bible study class this year (I used to teach 3rd and 4th grade last year). So tonight we ended our Spring Session with a picnic and it was amazing. Some of the highlights (for me at least) were the aforementioned attack, and the adults vs kids tug of war match. We (the adults) got schooled, twice, it wasn’t even close.
That’s the tired and happy part. The sad (yet somewhat hopeful) part is how the issues that parents have can profoundly affect their kids. And I can’t be mad at this particular parent, because I know this parent is a sincere but broken person (like we all are). The somewhat hopeful part is that we still have an opportunity to help this parent as well as the children work through these issues and become a healthier family, and have a healthier bond to the community, and that’s why I do this.

I’m of two minds. On the one hand, it’s a lot of good, big ideas. On the other hand, comic book movies seem to have been better when they don’t touch the good big ideas tha comics do really well. I think part of that is the limitations of the film medium. I’m probably going to be there pretty close to opening night.
Oh and for anyone who’s going to ask me on Thursday morning, I am not going to be able to see Superman Returns on Wednesday, so don’t ask for my opinion until the weekend.

Even more important part of my childhood (and in retrospect, sort of creepy in a “why are they all sharing a bathtub” way.

Sunrise Over The MississippiOriginally uploaded by richiedaleyphoto.
Every morning as I go to work, I cross the Mississippi river, and I barely notice it.
There is a lot of history, science, and beauty associated with this river, and every morning, for the last couple of months, I ignore it, trying to work on something for church, thinking about work, or catching up on missed sleep on the bus. It’s sort of the story of my life right now, and why I tried to organize that little get-together last weekend (which was pretty fun despite the ineptitude of the staff in getting orders right). There’s been a major lack of living in my life recently. Hopefully I can take some real steps to changing that this summer.

Let’s see if this works.
I’m unifying all my various web journals and stuff at www.escapingbabylon.com. I think I have it rigged up so that the feed automatically posts to LJ, but it may take a little bit of tweaking. Anyway, feel free to stop over and say hi.

Hey all, I’m announcing my impending move from Xanga to www.escapingbabylon.com
I was hoping to be able to rig a cross post system where personal posts there end up over here as well, but unfortunately, email posting is a Premium-only feature.
The site is still being built, but it is functional, and as soon as I can download my xanga entries all my personal posts will happen there. I’ll still have my account, and will be able to check your personal pages. You all should update your bookmarks, reset your feeds etc. (btw, coming soon will be a system where you can get posts from www.escapingbabylon.com by email, it’s just not ready yet).
I’ll explain why I’m moving soon.
